Babies – Some Tips For New Mothers

Every expectant mother has some concerns as having a baby is simply the biggest new event in a mother’s life. Many of these concerns concern aspects of motherhood that come only with having a baby, and here we will look at some of the areas that cause concern for many mothers. 1: Sleeping – babies sleep patterns vary greatly, so it does not follow that all will sleep irregularly. There will be babies who nap and babies who sleep all night, but the important thing is to try and get baby into a routine early in life. This way some regularity and predictability can be built into the daily routine, and while it may not be the routine the mother was used to before the baby was born it will certainly be preferable to a completely irregular sleep pattern. Help with establish a routine comes from instilling the feed – sleep routine early on, and once this is done it is generally simpler to convince a baby to sleep on a regular basis. 2: Eating – babies need to eat a lot in relation to their size, and often, too, thanks to the amount of energy that is expended at this very important stage in their development. Indeed babies grow at a fantastic rate in the first few months and this means regular feeding is a necessity – get into a routine, as above, and the whole process can be incorporated into a daily exercise with little effort and thought. 3: Handling – a regular concern of many mothers to be surrounds holding and handling the new baby. Many hold the in-built fear that they may drop their new child, yet instances of this are few and far between. It must be said that this is not an irrational fear, but one that is instilled nib our minds after years of evolution and attention to security and caring for our offspring. In addition a great number of mothers fear they do not know how to hold a baby correctly – the truth is that it will come naturally as it is an entirely natural process that is simply part of the motherhood process. Do not worry about handling and holding as it is simply common sense. 4: Bonding – much is written of the bonding process that occurs between mother and baby in the early years, and while it is accepted as fact it is not entirely understood by many. The truth is that it is a process that has evolved over many generations and is part of existing, and while it is a natural occurrence it will likely be hardly noticeable. The practice of handing the newborn baby straight to the mother is not simply a tradition as it has its roots in this natural bonding process – the mother is the first to handle the baby, and the one to whom it will turn for protection and comfort throughout its young life. There is little to be concerned about regards bonding from the mother’s point of view as it is simply something that will happen with everyday action. 5: Crying – it is a commonly held belief that a crying baby is clearly distressed, yet this overlooks the clear fact that crying is the only audible way of communicating that a baby has access to. It can not articulate words, but it can talk to us by crying and there are recognisable different types of cry for different reasons. A genuinely distressed cry will be noticeably different from one that says the baby is hungry, and one that simply indicates the baby wants its mother will be different again. These nuances will all come to the mother with experience and time. The best way for a mother to alleviate her fears – whatever they may be – is to seek advice, and this is available in many different forms. Babies are such fragile beings that walk (or crawl) on earth. Babies are really sensitive. Any small detail in the atmosphere or just anywhere around a baby could alter his health and welfare. However, as little and as vulnerable as they may seem, these innocent angels have the ability to tell the difference between good and bad. Researchers from Yale University recently concluded a study about how babies behave when strangers are around them. Their study say that babies can say if the stranger is someone good or bad basing on the actions they make later. In their experiment, they tested a group of infants ranging from the age of six months to ten months. The actions and various behaviors of these babies were recorded as the babies see different people whom they know none of. The researchers said that the babies would likely go with the people who would be blocked by another person rather than the person blocking someone from approaching the baby. In that case, the researchers placed a climber that was made out of wood and then they attached big eyes on it as the climber reaches the hill. One would push the other as the other tries to get the climber up the hill. As the study went on, they have said that almost 28 babies would most likely be with the helper than with the one stopping the climber from getting up the hill. However, even though babies have no idea, which exactly is good, and which is bad, the researchers have concluded that they have an idea of the basic definition of the two. Aside from knowing the good and bad people, babies also have the ability catch up on things, hypothetically, through music. Music has the ability to help the baby, learn and develop faster. Music either played on a compact disc or sung by a parent could aid in making your baby fall asleep and with it, the baby would sleep after a few seconds without bothering you that much. Research also says that music suitable for children such as nursery rhymes (i. e. Twinkle Twinkle Little star) helps in the development of an infant’s speech ability. Singing nursery rhymes or just hearing songs being played would teach the baby on how words are formed and how they are connected to one another. There are some researches, which say that when you are playing a song or singing a song for your baby, he would start learning about, tune, beats and rhythms thus helping your child develop such a wonderful talent like singing and dancing. Music could also be one of a very fantastic way of entertaining your baby and you. Well, would it not be very entertaining to see your baby dancing as you play a song or sing a song. You might even be amused to hear your baby humming or even singing along with the song, much more talking. There are a lot of things that a baby has that you might not have thought that he would have like the fact that your baby could identify who is good and who is bad, that he could judge attitude morally. Is Amazon’s Kindle Ebook Reader a Money-making Opportunity for Authors and Publishers?

Jeff Bezos changed the way people choose and buy books when he started Amazon. For many authors, Amazon has been a lifeline, breathing new life into books that had long since stopped being stocked by most bookshops. Amazon’s clever reader reviews, recommendations and “people who bought this also bought” feature have pulled dusty, forgotten books from the back of the store and stuck them in the front window again.

Now Bezos and the Amazon team are taking their revolution one step further. On November 16, 2007, they finally launched their much-anticipated electronic-book reader, the Kindle.

This new device is intended to make reading a book as easy and pleasurable on a portable screen as it is on paper. The big advantages the device has are that it can store more than 200 books, it can easily be updated with new books and it is light and portable. Most books, including new best sellers, cost $9. 99. Some classics can be downloaded for as little as $1. 99. Subscriptions to newspapers, magazines and blogs can cost 99 cents each or up to $14 a month.

Will the Kindle Succeed?

Content is going digital, of that we can be sure. Books, newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, courses and videos are all migrating to the Web. Many content producers are fighting the move, because making money online is seen as being far more problematic than in the “real” world, but user behavior is forcing the shift. Every bit of research undertaken on user habits clearly shows a reduction in the use of traditional media and an increase in the use of the Internet. In one survey of the “born digital” generation (that’s 12- to 18-year-olds), 87% said they consider the Web to be their primary source of information. These are the customers of tomorrow.

Does it follow that if content is going digital, then a product such as the Kindle, which makes this content portable, will likely be a great success?

My feeling is that portable reading devices will eventually become the norm, but it certainly won’t happen overnight, for several reasons. First and foremost, there is fundamentally nothing wrong with the paper book. People like books. They are used to them. Books don’t crash. They can be shared. I think the baby boomer generation will take a lot of convincing to move to electronic books. The advantages are negligible for the average casual reader.

Second is the cost. The Kindle is being launched at $399, plus $9. 99 for each book. That is a lot of paperbacks for little advantage. In addition, Amazon has decided to charge for a lot of information that is free on the Web, such as newspapers and blogs. Had they provided this information for free and just charged for books, they might have attracted the Web generation. As it is, early adopters will download the blogs and newspapers onto their smartphones and stick with paper books.

“So as a Content Creator, Should I Ignore the Kindle?”

No! While I don’t think there is anything that you need to do immediately, you should proactively monitor how Kindle and similar products do. Portable reading devices will come of age and be an important means of distributing content. In the meantime, I can see several trends that could encourage their uptake and that could become near-term opportunities for the specialist information publisher:

- Business books – I think that ebook readers could be adopted by companies to distribute business books, reports, industry magazines and blogs.

- Schools and colleges – I believe there is a huge opportunity for schools and colleges to utilize these devices to provide a much greater variety of books and information for their students. It is common for teachers and professors to have their students read just a single chapter of a textbook, but this can be impractical in the physical world. Ebook readers could be the answer.

- Books without publishers – More and more books are being written and published without publishers. Many of them are available only in digital format to minimize costs for authors. If this trend continues, which I think it will, then ebook readers could become important devices.

- Value-added books – One trend that could happen is books becoming enhanced by third-party comments. For example, Tony Blair could add notes to Bill Clinton’s autobiography, giving his perspective on events. In a digital content world, annotating and distributing the enhanced version would be easy to do.

- Free books – There are thousands of books out of copyright. If these books became available for free to people with ebook readers, it could create demand.

- Green pressure – Creating books, newspapers and magazines is a very energy-wasting, resource-draining, green-unfriendly process. We chop down trees, transport them to factories, mash them into pulp, move the pulp to other factories to press into sheets, ship the sheets to plants to cover them with ink, then use large machines to cut and bind them, and finally ship them around the world. The ebook reader makes this whole process go away. This could be one of the biggest factors that will make ebook readers successful.

Conclusion

Ebook readers will take off in the future as the technology improves, prices drop and the “born digital” generation becomes the mass market. In the meantime, there will be pockets of opportunity for online content publishers. You will need to keep an eye on developments and be creative to generate revenues from this opportunity.

To be frank, without doing your ?research? you?ll go no where with your ebook venture. You?ll be brain dead and you?ll be like a blind man going no where but the wall in front of him. Without researching before hand you?ll:

- Waste a lot of your time (and time = money).

- End up having no hope and momentum.

- Wonder if you?re ebook will ever sell or not.

- You?ll need to guess and hope a lot. Hope, hope & hope.

Most people fail to do their research FIRST before they write their ebook because they think that it will sell good. They hope in wonders that it?ll sell like the best ebook anyone has seen. They think that they?ll ?get rich overnight?. Listen, just because you?ve got good knowledge about a certain topic, it doesn?t mean that it will sell! (Sorry if you studied ten years on that subject).

To check and see how many people are actually looking for that topic, search that topic in your favourite search engine such as Yahoo. com. Just for an example you can search a topic about ?How to make money?. You?ll literally get over 3. 7 billion results. Do you think that this ?product? will even sell? Look at the competition it has. The business sector makes up most of the population of all subjects. So my point here is that you need to create a product that either no one has or create a product better than your competitors. You can create an ebook based on a niche market.

If you do your research on the topic of your ebook, you?ll benefit immensely because:

- You?ll know your competition & how large it is before hand.

- You?ll know if people will even buy your ebook.

- You?ll know how much to sell it for because you can compare prices with your competitors.

- It?ll save you a massive amount of time.

- You?ll have more confidence in writing the ebook because you?re absolutely certain that it will be a ?winning product?.

There are many tools and resources that offer you to research hot markets. Three tools I personally use to find hot markets include:

Keyword suggestion tools ? Such as Overture?s keyword suggestion tool. Hidden tools that not many people make use of. If you want to find very niche markets try looking at Ebay?s categories such as Books & Comics > Business > Ebooks. One other ?hidden? tool that not many people use is eBay?s ?Pulse?. This tool will show you the top 10 keywords searched on ebay. You will find this tool on the homepage, called ?eBay Pulse?.

- Forums ? Take a look at the forum that relates to your topic. If your subject has something to do with weight loss then search ?weight loss forums? in your search engine. You?ll find a lot of people posting their questions and problems.

- Surveys & Questionaries – If you have an opt-in list why don?t you survey your list about the topic? Ask them what is the biggest problem in __________.

The biggest tip I can give you is to take baby steps. Get those ?small ideas? that you had a long time ago and work on that first. So then you can make ?achievable goals? not a huge project which would take a lot of time and money.

So if you really want to learn how to sell and profit from your ebooks and I?m stressing this out ? It is highly imperative, important & crucial that you do your research of your market FIRST before you even type/write a single letter or word on your text editor/notepad. You?ll then cut the guess work.
